Monday, May 25th, 2009 - President Barack Obama pays homage to our fallen comrades in Arlington, VA. In observance of Memorial day, Obama prepared a short speech.
Our fighting men and women - and the military families who love them - embody what is best in America. And we have a responsibility to serve all of them as well as they serve all of us,” he said. “Yet, all too often in recent years and decades, we, as a nation, have failed to live up to that responsibility. We have failed to give them the support they need or pay them the respect they deserve. That is a betrayal of the sacred trust that America has with all who wear - and all who have worn - the proud uniform of our country.
The Tomb of the Unknowns is one of Arlington cemetery’s most popular tourist sites and is located near the center of the cemetery,
The monument houses the remains of unknown American soldiers from World War I, World War II, the Korean Conflict and (until 1998) the Vietnam War. Obama is an avid supporter of American War veterans. His statements this memorial day seem to hint at how American vets were treated and viewed after the Vietnam War.
